Until now Lethrinops sp."chizumulu" is an undescribed species which was caught in the neighbourhood of Chizumulu Island where it was living in a sandy environment. Unfortunately however this male was not yet colored when I took this picture. In the shop where I found this species it was offered as Lethrinops sp."yellow chin" Chizumulu however this seems to be a species from the southern part of the lake so hence I called this one Lethrinops sp.chizumulu". In the lake the males of these species can grow to 12 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 13 cm, females grow to about 9 cm. Lethrinops sp."chizumulu" is searching the sand for food; they are probably living of the invertebrates they find in the sand after jigging this. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. |
